Eisenhower Dance Detroit
Eisenhower Dance Detroit’s tagline encapsulates the organization’s mission: Innovate, Cultivate, Inspire! Founding Artistic Director, Laurie Eisenhower established Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, a professional repertory company based in metro Detroit, in 1991. Following Ms. Eisenhower’s retirement, the board of directors and new Artistic Director, Stephanie Pizzo, modified the organization’s name to become Eisenhower Dance Detroit. The company’s mission aims “to be a professional repertory company that, through outstanding performances and educational services, strives to deepen the understanding and appreciation of contemporary dance regionally, nationally, and internationally.” Moreover, under the artistic leadership of Ms. Pizzo, EDD works to use the art of contemporary dance both as a means to present beautiful, athletic, and engaging repertory and as a vehicle to reflect on and explore issues of social justice.
